Kendrick Lamar Teases Fourth Studio Album

Early Thursday morning (March 23), Kendrick Lamar put the rap game on notice after he mysteriously posted the Roman numeral “IV” on his Instagram. He also wiped his Instagram account clean with his “IV” post the only image on his feed.

He didn’t include any details, but for K. Dot fans, it’s almost impossible to miss the fact that his next album would technically be his fourth LP. It’s hard to mark that up as a coincidence, and if you think Kendrick leaving the post without a caption was meant to make this “announcement” more dramatic, we can’t blame you.

Additionally, veteran hip-hop producer The Alchemist posted the same image to his Instagram (though the post has since been deleted). He’s previously collaborated on tracks with Kendrick’s TDE label mates ScHoolboy Q and Ab-Soul.

Earlier this month, Kendrick hinted at some themes of the forthcoming record. “I think now, how wayward things have gone within the past few months, my focus is ultimately going back to my community and the other communities around the world where they’re doing the groundwork,” he said. “To Pimp a Butterfly was addressing the problem. I’m in a space now where I’m not addressing the problem anymore.”
