5 Nigerian Artists Who Came From Poor Backgrounds


Not all fingers are equal. You may think that most of our music stars do come from well to do backgrounds, especially with their level of fame and wealth, they have been able to acquire over the years. Sadly, the case is not as it seems. Some of them had to hustle their way all hey way up. 

A number of them are provided in the list below
Born and raised in Ojuelegba Surulere, Wizkid started recording at a tender age of 11. He formed the group gracious 5 with some of his church members. Wizkid rose to prominence after releasing Holla At Your Boy under the label Empire Mates Entertainment.

Raphael Temidayo is one of the numerous children born into the Omoniyi family. He used to play instruments for his church. He studied at \moshood Abiola Polytechnic and won the Airtel one mic campus tour in 2014 at the age of 19.
Timaya was born to a trader mother and used to help his mother hawk plantain. He dropped out of school in 100L, moved to Lagos, and joined \idris Abdulkareems hip hop group.

Patrick Nnaemeka, popularly known as Patorankin is a dance-hall singer, and songwriter was born and raised in Lagos with his family roots in Onicha, Ebonyi State. He began his musical career in 2010.


Olamide was born into a poor background but he rose to prominence after the release of his song, “Eni Duro”. He grew up in Bariga, Lagos.
