Benue State Government has banned inter
state transportation of dead bodies in the
state as a precautionary measure to
forestall an outbreak of the Ebola Virus
Disease (EVD) in the state.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr
Orduen Arbukun, who disclosed this
yesterday, at an enlightenment
programme with principal officers of local
government areas and organised by
Bureau of Local Government and
Chieftaincy Affairs also warned the people
of the state to reduce their participation in
burial ceremony.
He said anyone who wanted to transport
dead bodies across the state must seek
permission from the Federal Ministry of
Health by writing through the state
Ministry of Health, which would then
forward such letter to the Federal Ministry
of Health.
The Health Commissioner, who explained
further that certificate of death must be
issued before burial could take place
however, stated that the state did not
have any such law that permited
cremation of dead body.
Abunku, who said two centres had been
set up for Ebola victims at the Federal
Medical Centre and Benue State University
Teaching Hospital, both in Makurdi, with
about 16 beds, urged local governments
officials to take the awareness campaign
to the nooks and cranny of the state.

about Ebola have been produced, the
Commissioner promised that the ministry
would soon translate the fliers to local
dialects, explaining that the state had
upgraded the emergency rapid response
team.
Abunku maintained that his ministry
would also carry out the awareness to
other segments of the state, assuring that
the state was already taking necessary
steps to curtail the disease any advised
the people not to panic.
