Group Raises Alarm Over Plots To Disrupt Ondo Gov Elections With Militants

A socio cultural organization, Egbe Omo Ilaje, has raised an alarm that some unscrupulous politicians have perfected plans to import political thugs and militant groups to disrupt the weekend’s Governorship and House of Assembly elections in Ondo State.

The National Secretary of the group, Comrade Robinson E. Ogunfeyijimi, stated this during a World press conference held at 14, Aina Eleko Street, Onigbongbo, Maryland, Lagos, Thursday morning.

His words,”It has come to the knowledge of Omo Ilaje that some unscrupulous politicians who are major players or contestants in the forthcoming Governorship and House of Assembly elections have perfected plan to import political thugs/militant groups from other part of the state and beyond to cause mayhem and perpetrate unprecedented violence on our people for the main purpose of rigging the elections and undermine the wishes of our people.

“It could be recalled that during the Presidential/National Assembly elections, there were reported cases of ballot boxes snatching in some parts of Ilaje local governments. It is instructive to note that this coming election involves the locals, indegenes of the area which therefore make it more serious and competitive than the last election.

“Consequently, we are calling on the Inspector General of Police, AIG Zone XI, Ondo Commissioner of Police, Ondo Area Commander; DPO Igbokoda and other security agencies to put in extra security measures to thwart or prevent the plan of these evil perpetrators.

“The Egbe Omo Ilaje wants to strongly condemn the activities of some of our politicians and prominent indigenes who are encouraging and promoting thuggery/militancy in the local government for their caselfish interest. We are hereby  calling on them to desist from this inhuman and unpatriotic act as the Egbe will soon expose them and the long arm of the law will catch up with them,” he averred.

The upcoming gubernatorial elections in Ondo state is already rife with quite a few scandal. There have been rumours that the incumbent governor, Olusegun Mimiko, is planning to defect to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The APC, in a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Omo’oba Adesanya, has vowed, in response to the rumours, not to allow Mimiko to infect the party with the same crisis rocking the PDP in the state, but the PDP had denied any defection plan by members of the party.
