Serious bloodshed was averted in a community in Obingwa LGA of Abia state between youths and Fulani herdsmen whose three cows were killed and buried by the community.

Based on the information made public by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu on security, Mr Chigozie Onyekwu Ubani, the Men of Abia Vigilante Service alerted him of some suspicious moves by men believed to be Fulani herders, in and around one of there outposts.

 

He revealed further that around 6am on the 22nd, the picture became clearer as 3 cows were reported missing and herdsmen viciously searching the entire vicinity.

But on sensing trouble, he immediately alerted both the Police and Military of the incident and the impending danger.

Community Policing/Vigilantism:

Abia State.
* 5.30pm on the 21st.
Men of Abia Vigilante Service alerted me of some suspicious moves by men believed to be fulani herders, in and around one of our outposts.

* 6am on the 22nd, the picture became clearer as 3 cows were reported missing and herdsmen viciously searching the entire vicinity.

* SENSING TROUBLE, BOTH POLICE AND MILITARY WERE ALERTED.

* 11am on the 22nd, the DPO and his team, Soldiers led by a Captain, myself, and other community leaders arrive vicinity and were taken to the location where the said cow was killed and dumped in a big deep hole by some unknown, aggrieved youths.

*Family compound and extended homes deserted by both the guilty and innocents.

*The presence and intervention of the top security agents assuaged all tempers as both Police and Army worked together to avert what would have attracted a bloody reprisal attack.

*Herdsmen have agreed to peaceful settlement which translates to payment for their dead cow and liberty to search and recover missing two cows.

* Suspects still at large but hopefully will be turned to explain reasons and motive behind the incident.

In the meantime, area is calm and peaceful.

DON’T TAKE LAWS INTO OWN HANDS. REPORT DAMAGES ON ANY FARMLANDS/CROPS (BY HERDSMEN) TO POLICE OR COMMUNITY LEADERS FOR ARBITRATION AND RESOLUTION.
