The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has said that, contrary to rumours being peddled about his relationship with the governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, there is no strain in their
relationship, stating that he was solidly behind the aspirations of the governor.
He said this on Thursday when the governor paid him a courtesy call in his palace as part of his ongoing tour of local governments in the state to distribute
appointment letters to 5,300 teachers recently given appointment by the state government.
According to the monarch, the governor has been doing all within his powers to govern the state within the confines of civility and human understanding.
“The governor has not offended me in any way. He has not done anything for us to part ways. We are still together. May God Almighty continue to guide him aright. I will not tell lies, if he offends me, I will tell him. If there is the need for us to part ways, I would have told him but there is no reason to warrant this,” he said.
The Alaafin went down memory lane on how he had supported the governor when he was seeking to be
the governor of the state, stating that he was happy that he had not made a wrong decision in supporting the governor.
According to the Alaafin, his people seek his directive and direction on politicians to support in their bid for political offices and asked the crowd at the palace
whether he had asked them to support any other politician for 2015 apart from the governor, to which the crowd answered ‘no’.
In his remarks, Governor Ajimobi thanked the monarch for the assistance he has been offering the state in terms of advice in the last three and half
years of his being in office.
“We enjoy the enthusiasm of the people of Oyo and the Alaafin. The reception we got in Oyo today is not without the consent of the royal father,” he said.
Ajimobi also confirmed that the relationship between him and the monarch had been cordial since inception, and likened the relationship to that of a father and son.
“People carry rumours that we would soon part ways which has not come to pass. They say he will abandon me. This has not happened. The
development we enjoy in the state today is due to the support of the Alaafin,” he said.
