The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral
Commission, INEC, Professor Atahiru Jega, has called
on traditional rulers to educate politicians and
electorates in their communities on the need for
peaceful elections in 2015.

He made the call during one of the several forums
organised by INEC to engage stakeholders ahead of
the elections with the objective of enlisting the
support of all for a free, fair and peaceful elections
in 2015.
As politicians position for contest, INEC used the
event to seek the support of royal fathers to
moderate their conducts and that of their
supporters for peaceful elections.
According to Professor Jega, polls conducted have
revealed that traditional rulers influence their
subjects during elections.
He noted that the political atmosphere for 2015 had
become charged, saying some prominent politicians
were already making statements that could
undermine the peaceful conduct of the elections.
The INEC Chairman promised that the commission
would continue to do all it can to reduce the
apprehensions and ensure peaceful elections next
year.
It is barely two months to the general elections.
