The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state on Sunday picked a former Speaker of Osun state House of Assembly, Hon. Adejare Bello, as its deputy governorship candidate.
A statement in Osogbo issued by the state PDP Chairman, Alhaji Gani OlaOluwa, said the decision was reached after wide consultations with stakeholders in the state.
“The elders caucus of the party, after two days of serious deliberations, brainstorming and wide consultations finally agreed that Adejare Bello should be the running mate of Senator Iyiola Omisore.
“The party has absolute confidence and belief that the combination of the duo will win the August 9 gubernatorial election,” the statement said.
OlaOluwa added that the posts of the governor and the deputy governor were not meant for “political impostors”, disclosing that the gubernatorial campaign of the PDP would be officially flagged off on June 9.
Bello served in the Osun Assembly for 12 years, first as a minority leader between 1999 and 2003, and Speaker between 2003 and 2011.
