READ  The Democratic People’s Congress (DPC) has asked the Central Bank (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele to immediately resign over the continuous fall in the value of the naira.‎A statement yesterday by DPC national chairman, Reverend Olusegun Peters said it is time for the federal government to formulate financial and monetary policies that would strengthen the naira, yield foreign currencies, promote export and accelerate small and medium scale enterprises. It called on the federal government to take governance seriously and stop the blame game, stressing that Nigerians voted for change and dividends of democracy and demand progressive policies that would improve their standards of living.‎The party said it is stunned by the cash crunch, inflation unemployment, poverty and crime rate in the country as a result of the 'flawed and clueless fiscal policies of the CBN' in particular and the nation’s economic managers in general.‎It added that Emefiele's 'awkward' monetary policies contributed to the present situation where $1 is equal to N375."The Central Bank of Nigeria under Emefiele’s watch is confused and overwhelmed by the country’s economic downturn. His trial and error policies in recent times are classical example of voodoo economics, if not economic terrorism."We demand his immediate resignation and re-organization of the apex bank for effective policy formation and implementation that will stimulate the national economy and steer it on the path of growth, development, advancement and prosperity."The present crop of top CBN officers are suffering from leadership fatigue and ignorant of effective strategies to revamp the economy and restore the value and dignity of the nation’s currency, naira."It is time for all patriotic Nigerians to stand up and be counted in the efforts to overhaul the economy and save the naira from further depreciation," the party said.
